APPALACHIA
Appalachia is one of America's most beautiful and renowned regions, stretching across the eastern seaboard. Plant trees in Appalachia to help restore lands and impact communities!
With your help, we will:
- Restore degraded forests and and preserve land
- Improve economic outcomes and impact communities
- Improve biodiversity by protecting wildlife habitat
WHY WE DO IT
- Home to the namesake Appalachian Trail, more than 150 tree species can be found in the region, making it one of the most diverse ecological regions in North America. Unfortunately, the resource wealth of the region also means much of the forest has been degraded by mining and timber operations. Over the years, an estimated 83% of habitat has been lost. However, with an ever-growing tourism industry environmentally conscious organizations and businesses are stepping up to return the region to its former glory.
HOW WE DO IT
Reforestation in Appalachia will help restore forests degraded by natural disasters and human activity. Planting trees here will also benefit nearby communities as hydrological function will be improved, thus providing them with better quality water. This project also creates meaningful jobs in communities suffering from high rates of poverty and unemployment. Our planting partners are also implementing conservation practices to ensure the forests are maintained sustainably for many more years to come.Beyond ecological benefits, the initiative will create over 35,000 jobs, fostering sustainable living and poverty reduction within local communities. Moreover, it will extend its impact to over 200,000 individuals by improving food security and providing comprehensive training programs to enhance on-ground knowledge and capabilities. This holistic initiative empowers communities and unlocks significant market opportunities for growth, development, and scalable economic benefits, ensuring lasting environmental and economic impacts across Africa.
