Reforestation in Argentina will regenerate diverse, native forests. From the Andes mountain range to the lowland sub-tropical ecosystems, planting in Argentina will support some of the world's most distinct environments.
With your help, we will:
- Recover areas affected by large-scale wildfires
- Protect animal habitats and encourage biodiversity
- Sequester carbon in the biomass of the forests through climate stability
WHY WE DO IT
Planting trees in Argentina will re-establish native forests in the area by using an approach called biotic intervention; this means reinstating desirable plant species belonging to the representative community of the original ecosystem. The objective is to return to the Patagonian forest its structure, composition, diversity of species and original functioning, taking the pre-existing ecosystem as a model. Considering how large Argentina is, each part of the country has a different ecosystem, whether it's the highland forests of the Andes and Patagonia, or the subtropical regions near the Uruguay river. Restoration activities are aimed at accelerating the course of recovery of the pre-existing ecosystem. 🌲
HOW WE DO IT
Our Argentina project will employ locals at nurseries in the area to generate income for their community and planting knowledge for generations to come. Collaboration with locals is very important since they know the area, the climate, the seasons, and the animals.
Reforestation will improve the quality of life for the local population living in the harsh mountainous conditions. After decades of cattle raising in the area, one of the native trees thrives without allowing other species to settle. With this project, we will regenerate the forest as it was before human intervention.
